A watch that pays tribute to the wristwatch revolution in the 1930s is the Tissot Heritage 1936. Although a reinterpretation of a piece that has been in Tissot's prime collection centuries ago, this version contains a modern spirit that the current generation will surely fall in love with. After all, Tissot has mastered its vintage inspired models.

It was in the 1930s when men decided to ditch their gentleman pocket watches and chose to wear wristwatches, and this was for a practical reason. World War I have just ended, but its impact was still strong. Thus, the watchmakers started taking pocket watches and welded arches on either side of the case to slip a strap at the watch. It was, after all, no time for leisure; everyone was at work in order to rebuild everything that has been damaged by war. Built for casual use, these watches evoke a sense of finery as a love for activity. Tissot Heritage 1936 is just that. It is charmingly masculine, and cheerfully ready for work, with a bulky dial and a luxurious strap slipped on the side arches.

With a lot of nods to vintage pieces, the Tissot Heritage 1936 is an imposing watch with a dashing 45mm dial. The stainless steel watch looks dapper with its wire lug and a strongly hunter-style caseback. It is, perhaps, with thoughts of large pocket watches that Tissot made it this size. Settling comfortably on the wrist, this nostalgic themed watch showcases a two-toned dial with large, curly typography that offers amazing legibility. The white and black colors mix with the black numbers, with a sub-seconds dial perched at the 6 o'clock position, and a 24-hour numeral track embellished on the outer edge. It hands greatly reflect the beauty of the old watchmaking tradition; incredibly whimsical and sentimental.

The movement inside the watch is also particularly vintage; the ETA 6498-1, which once powered pocket watch movements ages ago. It may surprise you; this 36.5mm caliber was developed by Unitas in the 1950s. Because of its largeness, it is impossible to fit in smaller watches.

The Heritage 1936 is a complete nod to pocket watches, retaining almost everything, even appearance. What has changed, however, is the feeling of luxury evident in Tissot watches. The leather strap is made out of a brown leather strap with a creme stitch detailing to give it a fuller appearance. The bracelet is removable; the back of the case can be opened, just like an old pocket watch, from which you can see the magnificent beating of the movement. It is a perfect watch for personalized engravings; an original, vintage inspired timepiece that will capture a collector’s heart.
