It’s All Go at Hublot in Geneva This Summer!
Summer is a time for renewal and new horizons; Hublot is confirming its close ties with the Bol d’Or Mirabaud as official timekeeper for the eighth consecutive season, and will take the opportunity to present its new collaboration with Chef Jean-Edern Hurstel.
The Bol d’Or Mirabaud allows Hublot to proudly demonstrate its attachment to its roots in Geneva and its love of sailing. What could be more natural than for Hublot to associate itself with this essential event for the region: it is the world’s biggest inland lake regatta, running between the two ends of Lake Geneva, from Geneva to Le Bouveret. Around 500 boats will be on the start line for the 123 kilometre route with its changing winds and sometimes troubled waters. The gleaming hulls of the yachts cutting through the blue water of Lake Geneva have inspired the new Classic Fusion Chronograph Bol d’Or Mirabaud. A tricolour watch that is made exquisite by the combination of gloss grey steel, matt black and deep navy blue.
Both sporty and elegant, with its 45-mm black satin-effect ceramic case and its topstitched technical fabric strap, the Classic Fusion Chronograph Bol d’Or Mirabaud is well-suited to nautical life or to wear around town.
Stepping away from the tumultuous Lake Geneva, we head up the bank through the city of Geneva, where the boutique has enjoyed a makeover for the summer season. The boutique at 86 Rue du Rhône has undergone refurbishment and is thrilled to welcome its customers in a new ambiance.
Hublot is continuing its summer renewal by celebrating the reopening of Le Floris, a restaurant that has been an institution in Geneva for more than 50 years. The new Le Floris by Jean-Edern Hurstel sets out to be a place that adapts to different times of the day, offering gastronomic-fusion food, a lounge bar and an elegant bistro area called “La Pinte” serving local delicacies.
The manufacture is thrilled to associate itself with this iconic establishment and with the talented Chef Jean-Edern Hurstel, who, like the watchmaking house, loves shaking up tradition and creating the unexpected while striving for excellence in all his creations. Jean-Edern Hurstel is a chef who has built his reputation through his career and also his unforgettable time on the French TV show “Top Chef”.
After working at four Michelin-starred restaurants under great chefs of French gastronomy such as Alain Ducasse and Alain Passard, he decided to broaden his horizons to Dubai, where he worked in several five-star hotels. Hurstel then returned to Paris, where he managed the opening of The Peninsula and become the youngest Executive Chef of a luxury hotel in France. He opened his own restaurant on the Champs-Elysées, Edern, before taking over Le Floris on the banks of Lake Geneva. And the adventure at Le Floris by Jean-Edern Hurstel has only just begun!
Hublot renews its commitment to rhino conservation, supporting an initiative to protect biodiversity
With dedicated and consistent actions undertaken to protect the rhino, poaching – the biggest threat to their existence in Africa – continued slowly but steadily to decline up to 2020.
Over the last 10 years, two thirds of the rhinos in South Africa’s Kruger Park have been killed by poachers. Black rhinos in Kruger Park have disappeared dramatically and today there are estimated to be less than 500 remaining.
Moreover, in late March 2020, the South African border was closed to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus. Prior, the day-to-day influx of foreign visitors had kept the poachers at bay. Now, due to a severe shortage of rangers, poachers are free to move undetected around this vast area. This interruption of a source of national revenue underlines the extent to which wildlife protection organisations rely on private financial donors and on collaborative and coordinated efforts between local, international, public and private stakeholders.
Hublot is using its global reach, and reconfirming its support for Kevin Pietersen and SORAI – Save Our Rhino Africa India – with the release of a new edition of the Big Bang Unico SORAI, inviting 100 future owners to help support this cause for our planet. A portion of the proceeds from the sale will be donated exclusively to Care for Wild – the largest rhino sanctuary in the world, supported by SORAI – for it to use as it sees fit.
“According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), international, national and local partners must work together to resolve the biodiversity crisis. It is our duty to amplify the voices of those who work on the ground to protect endangered species, particularly the African rhino which is in critical danger of extinction. Hublot is truly delighted and proud to support Kevin Pietersen and SORAI in this movement which is so crucial for the future.” – Ricardo Guadalupe, Hublot CEO
“On the ground, every day is a battle, a race against time by the teams of dedicated specialists who rescue, rehabilitate, and release these rhinos back into the wild. We don’t want to lose one of the Big Five, not for us but for our children’s children. We therefore need to put our common efforts to protect this species! I am very happy that Hublot is once again able to provide its support to SORAI, to help raise maximum awareness of this global emergency.” – Kevin Pietersen, Founder of SORAI
Big Bang Unico SORAI
While the previous release, with its beige ceramic case, evoked the colours of the South African bush in winter, the Big Bang Unico SORAI is equipped with the UNICO manufacture movement and inspired by the natural colours of the bush in summer: a harmonious blend of two shades of green, from the green ceramic case to the green camouflage rubber or velcro strap. This special edition, engraved on the back of the sapphire crystal glass, will be available as a limited edition of 100 pieces.

HUBLOT invites you to enjoy the sunny side of life!
Although yellow is a primary colour that is abundant in nature, this colour is still difficult, nigh on impossible to reproduce in a material such as ceramic. As a real accelerator of innovation, and thanks to its expertise, the Hublot Manufacture has achieved the impossible by creating the first bright yellow ceramic. Your future is bright, thanks to Hublot’s Big Bang Unico Yellow Magic. Do you want this sunny yellow to brighten your day?
“With the launch of bright red ceramic, it was said that (almost) all Pantone colours were possible for our brightly coloured ceramic, a world-first which has been patented since 2018. The Big Bang Unico Yellow Magic is not only a perfect match with Pantone’s trending Illuminating Colours of the Year 2021, it is writing the future by making materials our field of innovation… a universe which knows no bounds. The strength of our innovation lies in our motto – “Be the first, be unique, be different”. The best is yet to come…” – Ricardo Guadalupe, HUBLOT CEO
Sunny, radiant, optimistic…it makes you feel so good this happy pop of bright yellow! In addition to its unmissable on-trend look, it is sporting the colours of the technological feat to which the Swiss watchmaker now holds the secret.
Innovation without limits
Yellow Magic, the name of the new brightly coloured high-tech ceramic created by Hublot which has been predestined since the arrival of its red ceramic in 2018. A unique process, a patented material, entirely developed and produced by the Manufacture’s R&D department and its Metallurgy & Materials laboratory. Four years of development to find the perfect balance of temperature and pressure enabling the ceramic to be sintered without burning the pigments. Hublot has met the challenge of retaining the properties and the colorimetry of the pigments while increasing the wear resistance of this ceramic which is harder than traditional ceramics (1350 HV versus 1200 HV). No more black and white! Thanks to Hublot ceramic is available in all colours – red, blue, beige, green and now yellow! With this perfect fusion of performance and stylish looks, Hublot is continuing to write the story of innovation, by continually reinventing material.
Big Bang Unico Yellow Magic
Available in a limited edition of 250 pieces, the solar power of its 42-mm case and its bezel shine in the light of this yellow ceramic. In an ultra-invigorating colour palette, the flange, indexes, minute and seconds counters, Arabic numerals and hands are all in this sunny yellow, to highlight the mechanism of the Unico HUB1280 manufacture movement and its column wheel, visible on the dial side through the sapphire crystal. The brightness continues right down to its lined and structured yellow rubber strap: the Big Bang Unico Yellow Magic is here to help you enjoy the sunny side of life!
In the second collaboration between the Swiss watchmaking manufacture and the brilliant American artist Shepard Fairey, Hublot presents the Classic Fusion Chronograph Shepard Fairey timepiece. A veritable titanium sculpture to be worn on the wrist, it symbolises the natural cycles of life and the unity between different cultures.
Hublot is staying true to its motto “Be the first, be unique, be different” by deepening its commitment to its “Hublot Loves Art” programme. After unveiling new collaborations with artists Takashi Murakami and Richard Orlinski, Hublot is today presenting its third watchmaking work of art of the year, the Classic Fusion Chronograph Shepard Fairey. As its name indicates, it has been designed by American artist Shepard Fairey.
Painter, graphic designer, DJ, illustrator, street artist, skateboarder and founder of the OBEY Clothing company, Fairey – also known by his pseudonym Obey – is probably the most politically influential artist of his generation. His works include the famous “Obama Hope” poster, an iconic image from Barak Obama’s electoral campaign in 2008, as well as the piece entitled “Liberté, égalité, fraternité” which he created as a symbol of hope for France after the 2015 terrorist attacks.
His works are on show in the world’s most prestigious museums such as the Smithsonian in Washington, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the MoMa in New York, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, to name but a few. He has been a Hublot ambassador since 2018.
Hublot and Shepard Fairey chose a watch from the Classic Fusion collection as the basis for their second collaboration. On this piece, the American artist, greatly involved in the project, chose to bring to life a piece symbolising a mandala, an ornamental symbol whose origins can be traced back simultaneously to several cultures across the planet. The mandala represents harmony, the cycle of life and the elements, as well as the precious nature of time in the mind. Here, this pattern is brushed and engraved into the titanium, the material used to create the bezel and the 45-mm diameter case. This work continues on the dial, which has also been finely cut to reveal the self-winding chronograph movement, a calibre HUB1155 offering a power reserve of 42 hours. In the centre, the hands display Fairey’s signature “Star Gear” mark. Fitted on a lined black rubber strap, the black stainless steel deployant buckle is also brushed.
The Hublot Classic Fusion Chronograph Shepard Fairey timepiece is available now as a limited edition in the Hublot e-shop and boutiques. Hublot and Shepard Fairey have agreed that this timepiece will help to raise funds for Amnesty International, an NGO formed of over 10 million people in 150 countries, which campaigns to put an end to human rights violations, in accordance with the theme of global harmony represented by the design engraved on the watch.
“With his roots in street art – a type of expression which is essentially a form of protest – Shepard Fairey is truly shaking up the art world; his works make us think. This is an inspiring approach which is also in line with the brand’s “Hublot Loves Art” programme. For this second watchmaking work of art, the artist wanted to immerse himself fully in the technical aspects made possible by the expertise of our brand, to produce a piece with a striking visual impact, where the ornamental elements communicated with the heart and mind, allowing each individual to freely interpret this message.” – Ricardo Guadalupe, Hublot CEO
“Hublot’s watchmakers and engineers are true masters in their field, enabling me to go further in expressing my inspiration and pushing the limits imposed by the materials and technology. I must say, I am very impressed with the final result of this second timepiece that I have created in collaboration with Hublot. I wanted to integrate the art of the mandala into the piece as, for me, this evokes the connection between the inner self and the outer world. A powerful concept to consider when looking at a watch and thinking about time.” – Shepard Fairey, Artist
Hublot announces the limited edition Hublot Big Bang Unico Red Carbon Alex Ovechkin, made to honour the Russian ice hockey superstar, the greatest ice hockey player of his generation
Hublot and Hublot Friend of the Brand Alexander Ovechkin have teamed up to create the Hublot Big Bang Unico Red Carbon Alex Ovechkin, a limited edition watch made in honour of ‘The Great Eight’, as the Russian ice hockey superstar is affectionately known.
The new watch has a lightweight carbon fibre case fused with bright red inserts and comes on a red velcro strap. The red accents consist of micro-glass fibres in the form of “Non Woven Fabric” (NWF), which is used to strengthen the composite material from which the case is made. During the preparation of the composite, this NWF and carbon fibre are fused with a resin-tinted adhesive. This high-tech, high-performance material combination was chosen to reflect both Alexander’s hockey equipment and his own extraordinary resilience and longevity. Now 35, “Ovi”, as he is called by his fans, was drafted in 2004.
There are no two ways about it; Ovi is one of the greatest ice hockey players of all time. On February 22, 2020, in a game against the New Jersey Devils in Newark, NJ, the captain of the Washington Capitals ice hockey team, Alexander Ovechkin, scored his 700th career goal.
That’s a landmark only seven other players have reached in the history of the National Hockey League (NHL), and one that puts him well ahead of any other athlete playing in the league today. No other athlete currently playing in the NHL comes anywhere near his scoring record. Commentators calculate it could be decades before another player reaches the 700 goals mark.
This incredible moment reaffirmed Alexander’s status as one of the all-time greats of the game and a global sporting icon. Also known as ‘The Great Eight’ because of his jersey number, the 35-year-old Russian is one of the most decorated players in NHL history. In 2018 he led the Capitals to their first ever Stanley Cup win.
“To work with my favourite watch brand and design a watch, as well as have it named after me is a huge honour. When Hublot asked which model we should work on together, it one hundred percent had to be the Big Bang Unico. I love this watch. It’s bold, technical, innovative, daring, strong and fits perfectly on my wrist. I am so happy to share this story of the watch with hockey and Hublot fans around the world”
– Alexander Ovechkin, Captain of the Washington Capitals ice hockey team and Hublot Friend of the Brand
The red accents tie in with both the Russian national flag, and the color of the jersey he wears as captain of the Washington Capitals. The timepiece is powered by Hublot’s in-house UNICO chronograph mechanism and its column wheel on the dial side. It is limited to just 100 pieces.
“Ovi is a legend of the hockey and we are thrilled to welcome him as a Hublot Friend of the Brand in 2018. We love working with Ovi! He’s a winner, both on and off the ice. It’s been a huge pleasure creating this special watch with him. The carbon fiber, the red, the in-house UNICO mechanical movement, the fusion of materials – it’s the perfect expression of Hublot’s bold watchmaking philosophy and of our partnership. Thank you Ovi!”
– Ricardo Guadalupe HUBLOT CEO
The Hublot Big Bang Unico Red Carbon Alex Ovechkin has some further personalized touches. To celebrate his jersey number, a ‘Great Eight’ logo sits at 8 o’clock on the dial. Additionally, Ovi’s signature appears on the sapphire crystal case back. Finally, another special detail is the tip of the chronograph hand, which is finished in red, white and blue: A nod to the Russian flag, as well as the colors of the Washington Capitals.
Thanks to the “One-Click” fastening system, allowing the strap to be changed safely and quickly, the watch will include a second strap in black rubber. And the icing on the cake: there will also be a limited edition custom hockey puck signed by Ovi as a memento for fans to treasure.

I’m a big fan of anything that makes football more immediate and more exciting, and of technology that brings the game to life. The Big Bang e Premier League is a sensational development from Hublot and a real game changer for Premier League fans all over the world. Well done, Hublot.” – Alan Shearer PREMIER LEAGUE’S ALL-TIME TOP SCORER
The 200 piece limited edition watch has a lightweight case in satin finished and polished titanium. It’s based on the Hublot Big Bang e connected watch launched last year, with a number of additional features tailored to the Premier League fan experience.
The strap, which is available in the Premier League’s signature purple, can be quickly changed by the owner thanks to Hublot’s ingenious One Click strap change system. Every strap comes with a microblasted black ceramic buckle. For example, owners will be able to change the look of the watch easily by choosing rubber strap colours and dial configurations.
The watch is powered by Wear OS by Google TM and comes with the exclusive Hublot Loves Football Premier League app, which will later also be available to existing Hublot Big Bang Connected e owners via hublot.com or the Google Play app store.
This provides users with animated notifications to alert them to Premier League match kick off times (15 minutes before the game starts), goals, penalties, substitutions, yellow and red cards, and time added on. The dial can be set to display the time using digital or analogue displays and when a match starts the watch automatically switches to “Match Mode”.
The app will also show team line ups and VAR decisions. When it signals a match is over, it will begin a countdown to the next fixture. If there are two games taking place at the same time, users will be able to switch between them with a simple screen tap.
Hublot will be equipping Premier League referees with a special version of the watch, which will not be made commercially available. Cast in a super lightweight composite, it will be even lighter than the ceramic version. It will also have additional functions, including goal line technology that signals to the referee when the whole of the ball has crossed the line.
The art of fusion reaches a new level with a double endeavour at the limits of possibility
Transparent, black, yellow, blue, red Hublot has mastered the creation and machining of sapphires with exclusive shades for its watchcases. With the new Big Bang Tourbillon Automatic Orange Sapphire, the brand has once again achieved a world first by adding a completely new colour to its palette of through-tinted sapphires. This unprecedented technical and aesthetic feat is combined with an entirely new tourbillon movement not only equipped with self-winding (a rarity for a tourbillon), but also with a reinvented architecture with its micro-rotor visible on the dial side and three sapphire bridges. A new fusion of daring and transparency, in a limited edition of 50 pieces.
In line with its winning spirit, Hublot has produced a new exceptional innovation by unveiling the world’s very first case in orange sapphire. Our manufacture has also reaffirmed its watchmaking expertise by unveiling a new automatic tourbillon calibre, entirely designed and manufactured in-house, and on which the spectacular visible dial side architecture underscores the innovative design of the watch. The “Art of Fusion” in all its glory according
to Hublot. Ricardo Guadalupe HUBLOT CEO
Orange sapphire, a world first
If there’s one area where Hublot’s own “Art of Fusion” is expressed in all its boldness and radiance, it’s definitely that of cutting-edge materials, particularly manufactured sapphire. Over the years, the brand (which has its own Metallurgy & Materials laboratory) has already released numerous very illustrious watches where the sapphire cases and dials, available in novel colours, act as transparent settings for sophisticated mechanics such as the Big Bang Unico Sapphire (transparent), All Black Sapphire, Big Bang Unico Red Sapphire and Blue Sapphire, and the recent Spirit of Big Bang Yellow Sapphire. Today, Hublot continues to innovate with this extraordinary material by reinterpreting the Big Bang Sapphire Tourbillon in an entirely new orange shade – a world first for a through-tinted sapphire – achieved thanks to the incorporation of titanium and chromium in a skilful manufacturing process. This surprising and dynamic colour is a breath of fresh air for haute horlogerie, and is in perfect harmony with Hublot’s culture of excellence. The fascination of the translucent bezel and case in finely polished orange sapphire is enhanced by the technical tone of the six H-shape titanium screws that characterise the iconic Big Bang design.
An entirely new self-winding tourbillon calibre
A revolutionary case with an innovative movement. Hublot illustrates its unrivalled watchmaking expertise – and its mastery of the tourbillon, which has been constantly developed since 2007 – by accommodating an entirely new tourbillon movement at the heart of the orange sapphire, completely designed and produced by the brand. Unlike traditional tourbillon movements, equipped with manual winding, this exceptional calibre makes a name for itself thanks to its self-winding system ensuring a minimum power reserve of three days (72 hours) – a very noticeable improvement for the wearer. It is equipped with ceramic ball bearings and the latest Hublot technical advances in its winding system. The manufacture has also reasserted its uniqueness by reconstructing the movement in its entirety in order to make the micro-rotor visible from the dial side. This innovative layout not only represents an additional technical challenge for the designers, but also breathes new life in aesthetic terms, by strengthening the spectacular appearance of the dial and its very contemporary design. The perpetual movements of the micro-rotor set at 12 o’clock echo the rotation of the tourbillon, its regulating organ, positioned in perfect symmetry at 6 o’clock. The grey 22-carat gold micro-rotor is set off by exquisite decoration (bevelling, sunray-brushing and sand-blasting), as well as by signature Hublot openwork in the precious metal.
Hublot has also continued in its quest for transparency by using more sapphire in the movement itself. The manufacture calibre on the Big Bang Tourbillon Automatic Orange Sapphire is equipped for the first time with three sapphire bridges – a barrel bridge, an automatic bridge and a tourbillon barrette. The lightweight effect of the skeleton work is accentuated by heavily open-worked and sandblasted platinum. The tourbillon cage at six o’clock, revolving on its axis every minute to compensate for the pull of the earth on the movement’s direction, is distinctive for its pure geometry affording a glimpse into the mechanical heart of the model. The legibility of the open dial is enhanced by hands and indices with a luminescent coating. The transparent orange rubber strap with a lined relief – with a patented express One Click interchangeability system and titanium deployant buckle – completes the cutting-edge look of this limited edition release of 50 pieces.
Hublot Style Endures, Inspired by New York City: Introducing the Newest Concrete Jungle
Since Hublot established its largest flagship in the U.S. on Fifth Avenue, the luxury Swiss watchmaker has become a mainstay of New York City. An unwavering beacon standing tall in its center, Hublot is proud to honor the city with the latest iteration of its Concrete Jungle.
Concrete as an industrious material is noteworthy for its strength and endurance. As a city built on these foundations, New York is not just a place but a symbol of vigor and resilience. Hublot draws inspiration from the bustling streets, their exuberant spirit, brilliant energy and limitless opportunities, moved by the city’s perpetual ability to endure, evolve and overcome. Drawing on these elements, Hublot has created an avant-garde tribute to New York’s bedrock of strength. With shared values to always be first, unique and different, the city is brought to life on a classic timepiece with a contemporary concrete twist.
Our concept of relationship to time has changed recently, and “New York Strong” is increasingly a way of life and an aspiration. The Classic Fusion Concrete Jungle New York presents the city’s sophisticated poise and everlasting elegance without ignoring its raw elements. Developed in an even more robust material, the Classic Fusion is reinforced in a fine concrete with minute detailing that evoke the city’s edges and structure. Muted grey tones juxtaposed against a black strap are quintessential New York with its ability to be simultaneously monochromatic and effervescent, uniform and unconventional.
“New York City is our home away from home, and Hublot gains so much inspiration from the place and people – risk taking, innovation, adventure and of course unity, strength and resilience. It is an honor to pay tribute to a city that has a place in the hearts’ and minds’ not just of America, but the world.” Ricardo Guadalupe – CEO HUBLOT
New Yorkers by design, Friends of the Brand Victor Cruz (TV Host and Superbowl Champion), Daniel Boulud (Michelin Star Chef), and Mariano Rivera (2019 Baseball Hall of Fame Unanimous Choice Inductee) join Hublot in paying tribute to the city on which they have left a boundless mark. The powerful campaign breathes life into the city, featuring them in significant landmarks. From Victor Cruz standing against the famed Brooklyn Bridge, to Chef Daniel Boulud in his esteemed kitchen at Restaurant Daniel, and Mariano Rivera striking a pose in front of the most iconic American landmark of all, the Statue of Liberty. Beaming light into the unstoppable city, Hublot pays its respects to the Concrete Jungle.
“When I was told about the concept of this campaign, I felt like it fit exactly where I am in this moment. I’m sure the Concrete Jungle theme resonates with everyone during these times. It’s that grit that makes the people of New York unlike anyone else. We were made to go through difficult times and emerge successful once the smoke clears.” Victor Cruz – TV Host and Superbowl Champion
“Nourishing the people of New York for the past 2 decades has been a blessing. Though it has been a very different year, we are grateful for how strong the city and its people have proven themselves to be. Just as we are constantly adjusting our kitchens to reflect the times and what is important, we are always looking for ingenuity, and New York City has driven us to stay inspired and passionate. This surprising watch is a perfect representation of the city’s creativity and strength, and I am proud to pay tribute to New York with Hublot.” Daniel Boulud – Michelin Star Chef
“Once a New Yorker, always a New Yorker. I have experienced the highs and lows alongside this city and am honored to take part in a campaign that shows New York’s true spirit of strength and energy. Hublot helped me celebrate a major milestone in my life last year, and I am thrilled to be able to partner with the brand again, this time to celebrate our beautiful city and its people.” Mariano Rivera – 2019 Baseball Hall of Fame Unanimous Choice Inductee
The 2nd iteration of Hublot’s Concrete Jungle is fortified with a more durable concrete material, staying true to the brand’s Art of Fusion principle to promote groundbreaking innovation. The concrete material is composed of 65-75% fine cement, 25-30% epoxy resin replacing water in standard concrete, and 5-10% fiberglass replacing steel to reinforce the concrete. Hublot’s Nyon design team upgraded the epoxy resin with an anti-UV additive to prevent color change over time and applied an anti-graffiti treatment on the finished components to prevent the concrete from becoming impregnated with other contaminants like dirt. The case and dial formed with this enhanced concrete will prove to withstand the test of time, underlining the importance of meticulous craftsmanship in creating enduring pieces.
The concrete encases the HUB1143 Manufacture self-winding chronograph movement with a water resistance of 50 meters and power reserve of 42 hours. Outfitted with black ceramic pushers and crown, and an all-black textile strap with black stitching, the contrast highlights the fine details on the concrete dial. Limited to 50 pieces, the Classic Fusion Concrete Jungle New York will initially be available exclusively at Hublot’s Fifth Avenue flagship boutique and on Hublot.com before becoming available in Hublot boutiques nationwide.
Founded in 1980, Hublot will be celebrating its 40th birthday this year. We take this opportunity to look back at the explosive journey and dizzying ascent of a small Swiss watch brand with disruptive designs which, in less than half a century, has become a genuinely cutting-edge watchmaking manufacture recognised all over the world. As the first brand to dare to combine gold and rubber on a watch, Hublot has turned this audacious approach into a philosophy forming the cornerstone of all of its creations, innovations and partnerships: the Art of Fusion.
Installed in the very heart of the Hublot H2 Manufacture (3rd floor) in Nyon in Switzerland, the exhibition designed by Samuel Ross can be discovered physically and will therefore be accessible remotely thanks to a virtual visit via Hublot.com as of 23 November.
Visit www.hublot.com/40-years. Live from the Hublot Manufacture, immerse yourself in the Hublot 40th birthday exhibition. During a 20-minute “Live Show”, Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of Hublot, will show you the four themes of this exhibition, which tells Hublot’s story. From its products to its Art of Fusion, to the women and men who embody it, and to its world of communication. Don’t miss out on the talks by the brand’s ambassadors and friends who will be taking part in the festivities. VIPs, customers, journalists, employees as well as the public and the Hublot community will come together to celebrate 40 years of Hublot history at a distance.
A history to discover through the pages of a book, HUBLOT XL, is available on order and delivered all over the world in hard copy or available for download from hublot.com.
HUBLOT e-Warranty: The digitalisation of the warranty card or how each watch becomes its own certificate
The authenticity of Hublot watches is guaranteed by a visual recognition of the micro-structure of their materials. With the HUBLOT e-warranty, Hublot is launching a completely digital warranty stored in the AURA blockchain.
“After being one of the first companies in the world to equip its watches with an electronic warranty in 2009, Hublot is once again innovating with the Hublot e-warranty. Hublot will use an electronic passport and warranty system, much like facial recognition, based on the uniqueness of the materials that make up its watches. This advanced technology required more than three years of research and development in partnership with the company KerQuest. Today, thanks to the Hublot e-warranty, a simple photo taken with a mobile phone is all it takes to activate the warranty and access it, while verifying the authenticity of the product. Although the technology developed relies on complex algorithms, it is simple and user friendly. A perfect fusion between technological complexity and ease of use.” – Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of Hublot
With the Hublot e-warranty, Hublot & KerQuest are fusing materials and ground-breaking algorithmics to revolutionise the user experience. The watch is thus authenticated by the recognition of the specificity of its materials. A first in the fight against counterfeiting.
Gone are the days of warranty cards and authenticity certificates; with its new Hublot e-warranty protection and warranty system, the watchmaking Manufacture is simplifying the tracking and tracing of its watches, from their manufacture through to customers, via points of sale. Faithful to its motto “Be first, unique, and different”, the watchmaker, with the Hublot e-warranty, has created a technological first in which the watch itself becomes the key to open up a new world of services. As well as facilitating use for points of sale, customers and customs alike, Hublot is improving the prevention of counterfeiting and theft. Simple, easy and effective!
The watchmaker has been working on the development of algorithms in partnership with the company KerQuest since 2017. The goal was to develop a technology that relied on the very recognition of the specificity of the watch, namely the microstructure of the materials that make it up. This way of working seemed obvious to the master of the Art of Fusion, which has been using materials and their fusion to differentiate itself for 40 years. As an additional challenge, although the recognition of a material in the broadest sense has been studied for several years, its actual unitary recognition was what had been problematic until now. With the evolution of smartphones and in particular the improvement in camera definition, as well as the development of artificial intelligence, Hublot and KerQuest were able to perfect the first visual recognition of a watch.
Each and every Hublot watch is unique: even two watches of the same model leaving the manufacture are distinguishable thanks to the singularities of their microstructure. The challenge faced was how to read them and process them in a reliable and practical way. The Hublot e-warranty is based on the unitary recognition of the specificities of all of Hublot’s watches and models.
Initiated four years ago, the collaboration between the French men’s fashion house Berluti and the watchmaking manufacture Hublot has given life to a series of unforgettable watches. Bringing together the former’s legendary Venezia leather and its patina with the latter’s art of fusion of materials, these different models have all had the Hublot Classic Fusion watch as their base.
For this new reveal, the two houses have gone back to the drawing board working hand in hand with Kris Van Assche, creative Director of Berluti, to design a model based for the first time on the iconic Big Bang Unico chronograph.
“The Big Bang chronograph’s strong, unmistakeable and modern identity reflects Berluti’s new universe and lifestyle. The patina is our trademark, usually present in our shoes and leather goods, but all that know-how can also be used for something totally different. Bringing the Cold Brown patina – which was inspired by an archive patina and renewed through a glaçage process to obtain a rich, cutting edge colour – to the Big Bang Unico is an opportunity for Berluti’s craft to be discovered in a new context. Using our tradition and heritage in innovative, forward thinking ways has opened up a world of possibilities.” – Kris Van Assche, Creative Director of BERLUTI
“It has already been four years since we began our partnership with the Berluti House and, for the first time, we have chosen the Big Bang Unico model as the basis of our collaboration. The final result combines an exercise in style, due to Kris Van Assche’s flair for fashion, with an amazing technical feat made possible by the expertise of our watchmakers, designers and engineers, all of whose know-how was required to master the conception of this new bezel.” – Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of HUBLOT
Thanks to their reputed mastery of materials, Hublot’s engineers here drew on the experience gained during previous collaborations with Berluti to be able to apply the house’s iconic Venezia leather to the Big Bang Unico’s dial. A construction encases the leather between two pieces of sapphire glass, cut out for the first time to allow the wearer to admire the gears of the Unico movement. Thanks to a delicate process developed in collaboration with Berluti, the organic elements of the leather have been encapsulated, as if frozen in time, so as to render the living beauty of the natural hide unchanging. And for this new interpretation, the Venezia leather comes in Cold Brown patina.
Another innovation: whereas on previous editions, it was only reserved for the strap and the dial, the Venezia leather in Cold Brown patina also features on the watch’s bezel. This achievement was possible thanks to the development of an all-new conception of the bezel, in two parts. Thanks to an adhesive and rigidifying resin, the first part of the bezel – in leather and around 1mm thick – is inserted onto the second part, which is a lower base in black ceramic, which is then screwed onto the case of the watch. The bezel will be able to continue taking on a patina over time, like for the watch strap that is a fusion of patina leather and rubber.
Diving into Berluti’s archives, Kris Van Assche decided to take inspiration from a past patina and bring it back up-to-date to create the Cold Brown patina. A glacé finish on it emphasizes the various brown shades composing this subtle colour. This patina is the result of a long and complex handwork, and each piece is unique thanks to the color variations created by this craftsmanship.
Of course, at the heart of this Hublot Big Bang could only be the iconic Unico manufacture movement, a chronograph with flyback function. Here, this MHUB1242 calibre beats from within a case of 45-millimetre diameter, and offers a 72-hour power reserve.
The Hublot Big Bang Unico Berluti Cold Brown watch fuses the heritage of the men’s fashion house Berluti, the vision of its creative Director Kris Van Assche and the mastery of materials of the Hublot Manufacture. Delivered in a chest signed by the two houses, presenting the emblematic Berluti shoehorn key ring and travel case, this model will only be available in a limited edition of 100 pieces.
