On the beautiful sunny day of Wednesday, the 5th if June 2019, was the grand opening of Frederique Constant’s brand new Manufacture in Plans-les-Ouats Geneva, Switzerland. A day to remember filled with joy, high spirits and wonderfull Swiss luxury timepieces.

Cocktail reception

The reception was organized right in front Frederique Constant’s brand new Manufacture, with a yacht feel to it, the cocktail reception was a gathering of VIP’s, international press, employees and many other distinguished guests. The layout was ever so tastefully arranged with a minibus bar, serving mouthwatering beverage where guests warmly mingled, chatted, sampled local delicacies under the delightful June sun. The anticipation was palpable as the eagerness to visit first hand the wonders the Frederique Constant brand concocted.

The Inaugural speech

The official inauguration speech was opened with high energy by Frederique Constant’s managing director Niels Eggerding, followed by select guest Chairman, Citizen Watch Co Ltd, Toshio Tokura. The two founders of the Frederique Constant brand Aletta Stas-Bax C.O.O and Drs Peter C. Stas CEO. The local politicians was also present to talk about the importance of watchmaking Sandrine Salerno Maire of Geneva and Xavier Magnin Maire of Plan-les-Ouates.

Following the inspiring speeches, the press was able to take pictures of the speakers, scissors in hands for the ceremonial opening and traditional ribbon cutting that Officially marked the opening of the new Manufacture.

Historical milestone

In 2006, the brand first felt the need to enlarge its production facilities and strategically decided to move into a 3,200 m2 building in Plan-les-Ouates, where big players of the Swiss watch industry were settled, becoming a critical geographical spot in Geneva for Swiss made horological production and development manufacturer.

After thirteen years, the group (which includes Frederique Constant, Alpina Watches and Ateliers deMonaco), was running out of space due to its rapid growth and high demand from its worldwide markets.

Two years were needed to achieve the construction of an additional 3000 m2 space, bringing the Frederique Constant Group’s headquarters up to 6200 m2, enabling to re-organize the implementation of the different working spaces completely.

Manufacture Experience

When first entering the brand new Manufacture, the visitors are led down along a corridor leading to the unique in-house Museum called the “Manufacture Experience“. The Museum tells the passionate stories of the three successful brands universes from Frederique Constant, Alpina to Ateliers deMonaco. From sketches to detailed movements presentation and also, more importantly, the collection of timepieces, each of the three brands have produced all along with their fascinating and rich history.

The art of watchmaking!

From there on the visitors were led to a spacious and tasteful new cafeteria fully redesigned and refurbished. The visit continued to the first floor where state of the art, production workshop from T1 to T4 will be regrouped, optimizing watchmaking workflow and logistics. Fully equipped with cutting edge technology showcasing the commitment to excellence Frederique Constant group was known for globally. The guided tour ends on the offices of the second house including top management, finance, human resources, marketing, sales and administration departments with a luminous and contemporary design and wide open space with breathtaking views of the surrounding area.

The beginning of a new era!

The tour ends, but it marks the start of a brand new area for Frederique Constant Group. The overall goal is to increase the production capacity from 160,000 to 250,000 watches per year within the next five years.
The modern Manufacture is the result of a life long dream and vision by the two founders and is also proof that with hard labour, a great team, persistence and a desire to serve the end customer with the best product at the most competitive prices, success is not only a dream but a possibility.

Baselworld 2019

This year at Baselworld 2019, we were kindly invited by non-other than new Managing Director of Frederique Constant, Niels Eggerding.

Niels Eggerding

In 2014, Niels Eggerding was promoted to Vice President of Sales and Commercial Director of the Frederique constant Group. Under his direction, the Frederique Constant increased its market share globally and successfully built a strong network of 3000 stores worldwide.

In 2018, Niels Eggerding was appointed Managing Director of Frederique Constant SA. He aims to ensure the continuation of the accessible luxury strategy, expand growth via the 2019 extension of the Manufacture in Plan-Les-Ouates Geneva. Moreover, to develop the Frederique Constant brand by using innovative in-house calibers, increasing high-tech smart watch modules and strengthing the Group’s presence around the globe for the years to come.

Mister Eggerding took the time out of his busy schedule and granted us an interview where he talks about the latest novelties released in Baselworld 2019 the brand new Slimline 50-hours Power Reserve.”

“Slimline 50-hours Power Reserve.”

The brand new “Slimline 50-hours Power Reserve”, is Frederique Constant’s 28th in-house caliber movement from their manufacture collection. This stunning timepiece features hours, minutes, date display at 6 o’clock and a power reserve of 50 hours all packed in a beautiful in-house movement.

The “Slimline 50-hours Power Reserve” is available in four models and boasts a 40mm case either in stainless steel or in rose gold-plated stainless steel with different dial colours (silver, dark grey or navy blue), Roman numerals and sunray decoration with hand polished white or black hands. The whole is made complete with an elegant alligator strap with a deployant clasp.

Manufacture Slimline 50-hours Power Reserve range

The result is a watch with a very classic looking feel and touch that provides the best quality-price power reserve function available on the Swiss made watch market.

The Manufacture Slimline 50-Hours Power Reserve contains the new in-house automatic calibre FC-723, with a 50-hour power reserve. This new complication represents FREDERIQUE CONSTANT’s 28th in-house caliber. The power reserve indicator is displayed prominently at the 10 o’clock position on the dial, including a highlighted red sector that indicates when it is time to either wind or wear the watch. The watch is being launched in four references, with 40 mm cases made of either stainless steel with a choice of silver, dark grey or navy blue dials, as well as rose gold plated steel with a silver dial. The dial is classic and minimalist in design, with elegant Roman numerals on the centre dial and Arabic numerals on the subdials, all without hash marks. The hand-polished leaf-shaped hands are either white or black.

Peter Stas founded in 1988, with his wife Aletta Stas-Bax, the watch company Frederique Constant. The manufacture’s initial strategy was to focus its energy on classic luxury watches at an affordable price.

We discussed, on location, at their booth in Baselworld 2018, the brand’s heritage, the brand’s values, this year’s novelties and more.
