During this year’s SIHH 2019 in Geneva, Switzerland, we had the great honour to be able to interview François-Henry Bennahmias, CEO of Audemars Piguet. Mr. Bennahmias took some time out of his busy schedule to talk to us about the impact of digital and social media on the Audemars Piguet brand.

Interviewed by Pascal Grenacher

Hail a hero’s welcome for Audemars Piguet’s Extra-Thin Royal Oak Tourbillion, the luxury watch brand’s prominent conquering piece.

The charmer, created in a pink gold body, has an imposing octagonal bezel which pays tribute to the imperial battleship that sailed victoriously in the Atlantic and Mediterranean seas. In the 40th Anniversary of this distinguished collection, Audemars Piguet re-launches their original timepiece design, armed with modern accoutrements to match the needs and wants of the modern explorer.

In this new collection, the luxury watches brand gifts their prestigious wristwatches with a powerful, hand-wound Calibre 2924 that stars a three-quarter bridge attached to its graceful tourbillion. It is a combination of flair and force; the internal architecture displays the intricate elements moving into motion, assembled with abundant elements to attain complete opulence. There is a balance between sturdiness and style—Audemars Piguet created the watch with extreme thinness, highlighting a minimalist magic above the complicated machinery.

Gilded with a fresh, pink gold colour, the Extra Thin Royal Oak Tourbillion is made to satisfy vibrant, trendy watch aficionados looking for pieces with contemporary charisma. The dial, enclosed in a Sapphire crystal case, is graced with a dark blue hue and topped with pink gold hands and luminous hour markers. Its tourbillon takes the stage at 6 o’clock, powering the movement and keeping its reliability in check. At the back is a multiple-segmented power reserve indicator, cleverly beaming through a Sapphire crystal back.

The Petite Tapestry mark, exclusive to the Royal Oak collection, takes a new spin in this timepiece. Miniature squares are embossed on the face, creating a stunning three-dimensional appearance whenever the light shines through the watch. It’s a delightful detail that adds a few more charm to the construct.
