The Chinese Olympic freestyle swimming champion and world record holder Sun Yang is Panerai’s latest brand ambassador for China.
Having won the 200m and 400m freestyle at the 18th FINA World Championships in Gwanggu earlier this year, three-time Olympic gold medallist and 11 World championships podiums, Sun Yang continues his astonishing reign, confirming his status as one of the undisputed forces in the freestyle swimming world.
“I have always liked Panerai’s watches and history so I am honoured to have been chosen by them. I feel very close to the brand. ‘Swim for success’ has been my motto since I was a child. It helped me push beyond my limits and I think it is also true of a brand like Panerai, which has never lost its connection to the world of aquatics and its powerful technical innovation in its 150-history.” said Sun Yang.
Born in Hangzhou in 1991, Sun Yang began his swimming career at the age of just seven, his promise growing from year to year. At 16, he joined the national swimming team, a move he quickly followed up with a long list of successes.
In 2017, at the age of 26, Sun Yang became the first male swimmer to take gold in all the middle-and-long-distance freestyle categories (200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m) at the FINA World Championships in Budapest.
