Every summer, global car enthusiasts and America’s beau monde gather on the Pacific Coast to celebrate the heritage and tradition of the automobile. Held from 23–26 August 2018, Monterey Classic Car
Week is composed of a spectacular array of auctions, tours and concours, all held in the beautiful surroundings of the Monterey Peninsula, California. Rolex has supported this heritage event since 1997, when the Swiss watch brand first partnered with the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance®.

Ahead of the 2018 Monterey Classic Car Week, Nissan was announced as the featured marque at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, while Motor Cars of the Raj to Post-war Citroën will be recognized at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance®. Renowned as the world’s most elite classic car show, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance® acknowledges outstanding original and authentic automobiles – championing the ultimate in technical merit, elegance and style. This year’s event will uphold Pebble Beach’s pioneering motor sport roots, as it stages the official unveiling of the Mercedes-AMG Aesthetics Progressive Luxury EV – a streamlined Electric Silver Arrow concept car inspired by their speed record cars of the 1930s.

Making his debut as an Honourary Judge at the Concours, Tom Kristensen, ninetime winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and Rolex Testimonee, says: “I am looking forward to learning more about the incredible cars and understanding the stories that shape their history, as well as meeting the devoted collectors and the passionate spectators.” Speaking of Rolex’s involvement in motor sport more widely, Tom Kristensen continues: “Rolex supports the most iconic races and the finest events around the world, always adding an element of prestige to the partnerships. It’s an honour to represent the brand.” Event activity commences for Rolex on Thursday 23 August with the Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance®, an 80-mile journey along picturesque roads through the Monterey Peninsula and Big Sur Coast, tracing portions of the awe-inspiring 17-Mile Drive. Further inland, racing cars driven by international drivers, including two-time FIA Formula 1® Drivers’ World Champion Mika Häkkinen, will return to the track for the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion. The four-day event sees historic racing cars compete as they were originally designed to around the 2.238-mile WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. On Friday 24 August, Quail Lodge & Golf Club hosts the ultimate garden party with a rare collection of magnificent cars and motorcycles on show for The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering.

As the weekend reaches its pinnacle, wheel-to-wheel action continues at the Reunion, while around 200 cars gather on the famed 18th fairway of Pebble Beach Golf Links® for the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance®. Speaking ahead of Monterey Classic Car Week, three-time FIA Formula 1® Drivers’ World Champion Sir Jackie Stewart says: “It is always a pleasure to return to Monterey, where the atmosphere and the genuine enthusiasm for motor cars is unparalleled, and this year it will be particularly poignant for me as I mark my 50th anniversary as a Rolex Testimonee. The event will give me the opportunity to reflect on my career in motor sport and the fantastic evolution of the car during this time. I can’t wait to see the style and elegance that will be on show.”

Encapsulating speed, endurance and style, the prestigious Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance® presented by Rolex on Thursday 23 August and the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance® on Sunday 26 August combine to create the ultimate moving motoring museum. The appreciation for classic cars in the region started with the Pebble Beach Road Races and Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance® in 1950.

For the past seven decades, the events have given aficionados the chance to relive the Golden Age of motor sport. Rolex partnered the Concours as the Official Timepiece in 1997 and, following the inception of the Tour in 1998, became the presenting partner of Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance® in 2007. The Concours honours specific classes and categories each year and in 2018 will feature Motor Cars of the Raj, Rollston Coachwork, OSCA, Tucker, Sporting Vintage Cars, Post-war Citroën, Eisenhower Dream Convertibles and an Indianapolis 500 celebration. The extraordinary selection of cars on display and rigorous judging process ensures that the Concours continues to set the standard for similar events worldwide. As the spectacle draws to a close on Sunday afternoon, the Best of Show Award, widely considered as the most coveted prize among car collectors, is presented to the most exemplary automobile.

The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion is the largest event during the Monterey Classic Car Week and is staged at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, the scene of America’s golden years of sports car racing since it opened in 1957. The event was first established in 1974 as the Monterey Historic Automobile Races, which Rolex first partnered in early 2000 – prior to becoming Title Sponsor of the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion in 2010. This year sees 550 historic and period-correct race cars, in 15 categories, compete over four days, including those showcasing the history of Formula 1®, Can-Am and Trans-Am.

Rolex has been the Official Timepiece of The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering since 2005. It is the crown jewel in a whirlwind of events over the Monterey Classic Car Week and is reminiscent of the earlier, more intimate days of the Concours. Set against the picturesque backdrop of the Santa Lucia mountain range, the event combines elegance with exceptional vintage sporting automobiles and a true international culinary experience. Each year, the winner of the ‘Rolex Best of Show’, voted for by the participants, is admitted into the Rolex Circle of Champions, guaranteeing the car’s continued legacy.
