As part of the 2020−2022 cycle of the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative, Lin-Manuel Miranda and his protégée Argentinian filmmaker Agustina San Martín met while he was making his film directorial debut after a string of Tony award-winning musicals including ‘Hamilton’ and ‘In the Heights’. There was a bolt of artistic recognition between the two artists that acted as a creative stimulus and resulted in an instant connection. With her experience in filmmaking, San Martín became an invaluable sounding board to her mentor. For the protégée, the interaction was “eye-opening” and empowering. She has made plans to broaden the range of her work from independent films to also apply her unique style to large-scale narrative films. Discover more https://on.rolex.org/open-category
