Swiss luxury watch brand Hublot joined forces with watch and jewellery retailer ROX to support Alan Shearer’s Charity Ball. The fifth annual charity ball in support of the Alan Shearer Foundation – the dedicated fundraising arm for the Alan Shearer Centre – has raised £380,000, more than double last year’s figure, to help fund the pioneering facilities for disabled people at the Centre in Newcastle.

Swiss Haute Horology brand Hublot donated the special auction prize of the dedicated King Power Unico Special Edition Alan Shearer – a limited edition of two timepieces produced in support of the charity cause. The other watch of this very special pair is worn by the legendary football player. The King Power Unico Alan Shearer 48mm demonstrates the brand’s eponymous “Art of fusion” of materials with the microblasted black ceramic, titanium, black rubber and carbon dial, combined with a white rubber and black calfskin strap featuring contrasting monochrome stitching.

The Hublot timepiece captivated the audience during the live auction bidding, with two figureheads of UK business up against each other until one conceded and offered to put his generous bid of £70,000 towards the charity if his rival donated a hugely generous £80,000 for the charity. This brought the total to a staggering £150,000. ROX boxes were sold for the charity mechanic ROX in a BOX with one box having £5,000 diamond bangle inside. Proceeds of £10,290 went to Alan Shearer Foundation.

Guests were wowed by live entertainment from Jess Glynne who took to the stage to give an exclusive performance at the glittering ball, which was hosted by the former England and Newcastle Striker and his wife, Lainya, at the Hilton Newcastle Gateshead hotel on Saturday. Hollie Shearer, Alan Shearer’s daughter, and electronic string quartet, Escala – former Britain’s Got Talent finalists – performed live as well. Alan Shearer said: “I have built an incredible relationship with Hublot over 10 years now. Their generosity has been very supportive of my Foundation. This year they have donated a special piece to be auctioned with all proceeds going to the Alan Shearer Foundation and I am very thankful for this act of solidarity.”
