The Interview

We were kindly invited by none other than Franz Linder, President of MIDO Watches, for an exclusive interview. Mr. Linder took the time out of his busy schedule to talk to us about this year’s novelties collections, the impact of digital on the brand, the key markets for growth and much more.

MIDO WATCHES

For the few left that still might be unaware of this unique Swiss watch brand: Mido Watches, it’s interesting to do a jump back in history back to 1918 where an ingenious Swiss Watchmaker going by the name of Georges Schaeren who founded “MIDO G. Schaeren & Co.” From the start, the name MIDO – from Spanish «Yo mido» (i.e. «I measure») became synonymous with technical innovation and timeless designs and over 100 years later the WATCHESPEDIA got an exclusive insight in the MIDO world by actually going on location, in today’s MIDO Headquarters in Le Locle, Switzerland.

The Ocean Start Burst Special Edition

Since the 1930s, Mido has been renowned for the ultra-high performance of its timepieces’ water-resistance system. Dedicated to the undersea landscape, its Ocean Star collection is the most dazzling symbol of this technology.

Seventy-five years after its first Ocean Star, Mido is launching a special edition series in homage to this iconic collection known since the 1940s for its unfailing water-resistance. These two new Ocean Star Tributes are a magnificent contemporary reinterpretation of the diver’s watches created in the 1960s.

The size of their cases which is of 40.5 mm in diameter followed by the ultra-resistant box sapphire crystals, protects the watches dials in Mediterranean blue or deep black. The steel multi-link bracelets give these timepieces an elegant retro look that made the success of the original. A unidirectional rotating bezel enhances the robust round case in polished steel with an aluminium ring in blue or black. Several touches of Super-LumiNova® on the bezel, hour-markers and hands ensure perfect readability whatever the diving conditions. The hours and minutes hands are flat diamond-cut, while the second’s hand is varnished in the Mido colours, orange. An aperture at 3 o’clock indicates the day and date. The case back has a great surprise because it was decorated with a polished starfish in relief, the historical symbol of Ocean Star.
