Perhaps one of the famous facets of the Ulysse Nardin brands is its involvement in crafting prestige marine chronometers since the boom of international seafaring trade in the latter part of the 19th century. During this era, marine chronometers are essential as they keep ships and cargo on course. In this year, the brand touches base with its colorful history by adding two new additions to its prominent Ulysse Nardin Marine Chronometers. The Marine Chronometer Manufacture, two elegant models beating the same historical heart as its predecessors, holds true as the heirs of Ulysse Nardin's 170 years of innovation and craftsmanship.
Inside these new marine chronometers is a new in-house caliber, the UN-118, crafted with Silicium and DIAMonSIL—two futuristic materials pioneered by the brand, exclusively for its own use. This new movement symbolizes a giant step towards the quest for absolute accuracy when it comes to timekeeping, bringing together the technological prowess of the anchor escapement in DIAMonSil and the brand's own oscillator paired with patented hairspring. A cutting-edge gem, it is a self-winding caliber that represents the cornerstone in the Ulysse Nardin brand development and independence. Inside, it beats with motion to produce precise hours, minutes and even direct-drive seconds.
Just like every member of the Marine Chronometer, the Marine Chronometer Manufacture's new models are represented with same dial design akin to the brand's early models. It sports a power reserve at 12 o'clock and a small seconds timer at 6 o'clock, perched beside the date window. You will see distinctive Roman typography, with cathedral hands sweeping along the dial. A fluted bezel finishes off the stainless-steel case, displaying both virtues of sophistication and functionality. At the side, a crown is design for better handling, furnished with a rubber notch for winding.
This impressive 45mm chronometer is represented in two models. One is adorned with an elegant blue sunburst dial with white markers and bright cherry red accents that takes a nod at classicism. It is a nod to the modern minimalist. The other, a glossy white with blue numerals, signifying a strong, maritime look. This simple look carries a strong resemblance to the colors of maritime.
Both Marine Chronometer Manufacture models carry water resistance for up to 200 meters and run autonomously for 60 hours. The date can be adjusted forward or backward for different time zones. Its chronometer comes with the Ulysse Nardin Certificate of performance, as well as the mark of the renowned COSC.
