As well as beautifully measuring every moment on Earth; this collection follows the phases of the moon, which makes perfect sense given that the Speedmaster was the first watch ever to be worn on the lunar surface. As a Master Chronometer, the Moonphase celebrates another pioneering moment: OMEGA's exacting new standard of testing set by METAS.

THE MOONPHASE UP CLOSE

The bold use of colour gives each Moonphase its distinctive look. Along with an opaline silvery dial model, there are also dials in sun-brushed black brown, blue or grey. The ceramic bezels also provide plenty of attractive options in black, brown, blue and green. The cases are in stainless steel, 18K yellow gold or 18K Sedna™ gold and the twin two-handed subdials give the watches a beautifully symmetrical look.

LUNAR PRECISION

A brief astronomy lesson: a lunar month is not 30 days, but slightly more than 29.5 days. A difficult time-span to manage for a standard gear train, but OMEGA's Moonphase is up to the task. Its highly accurate mechanism only needs adjusting after 10 years, and all it takes is a few turns of the crown.

"On most models, a close-up view of the Moonphase disc reveals the iconic footprint left by Neil Armstrong."

A LIFELIKE MOON

On stainless steel models, the image of the moon is as detailed as a NASA photograph. This has been obtained by a special microstructuring technique on a metallic crystal disc. Look closer and you can even see an added astronaut’s footprint.

UNIQUE FEATURES

The watches include a 60-minute and 12-hour recorder at 3 o’clock, as well as a date dial  and small seconds hand at 9 o’clock. The captivating Moonphase indication sits at 6 o’clock. The hands and indexes are coated in Super-LumiNova for extra brightness in dark conditions.

THE LIMITED EDITION

This rare model truly stands out thanks to its sand-blasted 950 platinum dial and a distinctive red alumina bezel and leather strap. The Moonphase combines a Liquidmetal® moon with a red alumina disc, while the case itself is made from 950 platinum. The date hand at 9 o’clock includes a magnifying glass for added visibility. Only 57 models have been made.

THE MASTER MOVEMENT

The revolutionary new 9904 and 9905 movements are made up of 368 components and mark the start of a whole new era in watchmaking: the Co-Axial Master Chronometer has landed.
